Derek Shepherd’s Big Shock From Grey’s Anatomy
Fans in the U.S are weeping right now and if you don’t want to know why then read no further.
Major Spoilers Ahead
So here was our darling ‘McDreamy’, Dr. Derek Shepherd telling his wife Meredith “I will be back in no time” and just like her we thought, well okay. And just like that the moment never arrived. Dr. Shepherd is gone guys! It’s a major shocker!
On Thursday’s Episode 21 of Season 11 titled “How To Save A Life” (ironic, isn’t it?), we find Derek saving the lives of four people in a car crash. Soon after that he is seen carelessly reaching for his ringing cell phone in the car and bam! He gets hit by a truck. He is then rushed to a hospital where the doctors are reluctant to do a brain scan and subsequently Derek suffers a brain damage. He cannot speak but we can hear his thoughts. Finally Meredith is informed about the crash and the fact that her husband is on life support system. And right there, all alone, Meredith decides to end his life.
“Derek, You Go”, she says. We are shown flashes of the amazing relationship of this fantastic couple as Meredith recalls each moment as Derek’s pulse comes to a standstill.
Fans across the states have been heartbroken and numb with the exit of their most loved character in the series.
Soon after the episode ended Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd), released a statement talking about his incredible journey and his supportive fans.
The show’s creator Shoda Rhimes too released a statement about Derek. According to People she said,
“Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character — for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our ‘McDreamy.’ Patrick Dempsey’s performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example — happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true — of what young women should demand from modern love. His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning.”
Well, whatever it is, as fans, this is something we did not anticipate and cannot digest. How can we watch Meredith without McDreamy? Too painful!
